Wrap yourself in luxury with the VALA cardi, an oversized, timeless cardigan. The VALA cardi knitting pattern offers two styles based on your yarn choice. For an elegant, flowing drape, choose the PURE silk option, perfect for a sophisticated cardigan or as a luxurious dressing gown. For a cosier feel, the LAMB yarn option brings warmth without weight, which is ideal for a light yet snuggly cardigan.
The VALA cardi is crafted from the top down, using a simple yet refined knit and purl pattern. Starting from the top back shoulder line, it’s worked back and forth with the sleeves seamlessly integrated into the back and fronts, creating beautiful dolman-style sleeves that enhance the cardigan's relaxed, oversized silhouette. Whether you choose the PURE silk for elegance or the LAMB yarn for comfort, the VALA cardi offers a versatile piece that fits effortlessly into any wardrobe.

CONSTRUCTION
The VALA cardi is worked from the top down in a simple pattern of knit and purl stitches. Starting at the top back shoulder line, the cardigan is worked back and forth, and the sleeves are worked as part of the back/fronts to create Dolman type sleeves. The sleeves are shaped using short rows.
For the fronts and sleeves, stitches are picked up along the top back shoulder and sleeve, and the pieces are worked down to the bottom of the armhole, increasing for the overlapping V front along the way. The sleeves bottom are shaped with short rows before back and front of the sleeve are joined with a cast-off.
After fronts and back are joined at the bottom of the armholes the rest is worked in one piece to the desired length. Finally, an i-cord cast-off is worked all around the front and bottom edges as well as along the sleeve cuffs. If so desired, the matching belt is worked separately.

Yarn usage: 300 (400) g / 1500 (2000) m for the cardigan + 50 g / 250 m for the belt, use a contrasting colour if desired.
In the pictures, the cardigan is worked in PURE silk colour Plum and the belt in the colour Orange.
NEEDLES
Two 3 mm, 80 cm or longer [US 2.5, 32 in or longer] circular needles – the extra needle is used for the three-needle cast-off on the sleeves and for the edge around the cardigan.
You may want to use a 3 mm, 40 cm [US 2.5, 16 in] circular needle for the sleeve edges.
Adjust the needle size if necessary to obtain the right tension.
TENSION
In knit and purl stitch pattern using 3 mm [US 2.5] needles
10 cm [4 in] = 25 sts
10 cm [4 in] = 32 rows
Make a swatch and measure the tension after washing or blocking it.
Next, determine the size you want to knit. Keep in mind that silk can stretch up to 10% in both length and width when washed.
As a result, the knitted piece will appear smaller while on the needles compared to its final size after washing.
CARE
Hand-knitted silk garments must be handled carefully when washed, as the fabric may stretch.
DETERGENT / SOAP
Use mild or neutral detergents with a relatively neutral pH level, preferably those marked for silk care or wool. Do not use heavy-duty detergents or those containing enzymes or bleaches.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
By hand: Ensure the water temperature is
steady, lukewarm or around 28°C/82°F. Add a small amount of gentle detergent, submerge your silk garment, and soak it until completely saturated. Rinse two to three times in clean water, ensuring it is the same temperature. Press the
water out of the garment, place it in a washing bag, and spin it in the machine using a gentle to medium spin programme.
By machine: Use a washing machine with a
silk/wool setting and a gentle cycle.
DRYING INSTRUCTIONS
Lay the garment flat on a clean towel and
reshape it as needed. Leave it to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Do not hang to dry.
