Mega Afi Cardi is the cardigan version of the Mega Afi sweater — same yoke, same L yarn, but now open at the front and with a short collar. My own is cheerfully pink, knitted in 2015 Líparít with Where's My Sari as the pattern colour.
When I knitted stacks of lopapeysur as a teenager, I thought only the natural sheep colours were the right ones — but now I love playing with colour. For me this cardigan is both a continuation of the journey into Amma Katrín's kitchen in the old days, and a bridge to something new and colourful.
A generous, oversized cardigan with a bold colourwork yoke — the cardigan you'll reach for every day. Knitted top-down in the round and steeked for clean front bands, the Mega Afi Cardi pairs a calm main colour with a lively patterned yoke that draws the eye upward.
Worked in einrúm L, the cardigan has the soft drape and quiet sheen the yarn is known for. Knitted seamlessly from the neck down, the neckband is worked back and forth, the colourwork yoke in the round, and the body and sleeves continue down to ribbed cuffs and hem. Vertical button bands with buttonholes are picked up and knitted along the fronts, and the steek is secured and cut open at the finish.
