The inspiration for the SILK SLIPOVER arose from the desire to create a garment that effortlessly could transition through seasons and occasions. The details make the slipover special whether you wear the SILK SLIPOVER as a slinky summer top, a luxurious undershirt, or a chic vest layered over a light blouse or shirt. The rib and seed stitch edges create a beautiful frame for the smooth stocking stitch body, while the front neckband, worked sideways, ensures the armholes and neckline match seamlessly.
The slipover is worked top-down, starting at the upper back. The seed stitch edges along the armholes are worked along with the main fabric for both the back and front, while the neckband is added at the end. The upper back begins with an open cast-on that forms the shoulder line and is then worked back and forth to the bottom of the armholes. The left side of the front neck line is created from stitches along this open shoulder line cast-on, followed by the right side. The two front sections are joined by casting on stitches at the centre, and the front is worked downwards to the base of the armholes. After incorporating ribbing at the armholes and joining the front and back, the remainder of the body is knitted in the round, concluding with a double-knit bottom band. Finally, the seed stitch neckband is worked sideways onto the front, and a rib band, similar to those at the armholes, is added to finish the back neck.
